ELA and Mathematics Standards
Learning Targets
We know some students are coming back to school with learning gaps and many have experienced trauma. We have consistently heard that teachers should not follow their curriculum in the standard way. Teachers wanted the City to identify a set of shared priority standards that could help them make important instructional decisions.
Building on the collaborative work on curricula that began last winter, the DOE, Teachers' Union, and Principals' Union have identified citywide priority learning standards for ELA and Math for grades K-12. By being able to go more deeply into the most essential skills and knowledge, teachers will be able to address unfinished learning caused by the pandemic and focus on the specific needs of their students.
